Strategic Plan 2026-2030

This strategic plan outlines goals for the Interlaken Public Library for the upcoming five year period. It reflects the library mission and vision statements given below, as well as feedback collected from library staff and volunteers and from community members and stakeholders during a series of public meetings held in 2025. The goals and objectives presented here were formed with an understanding that library services will change in accordance with the needs of the community that the library serves. The Board of Trustees will evaluate the progress of the library in meeting these goals at their annual meeting each January.

Library Mission

The mission of the Interlaken Public Library is to provide public access to educational and recreational materials, technological resources, engaging experiences, and the support necessary for individuals and groups to connect, learn, build skills, and succeed in our community.

Vision Statement

The Interlaken Public Library is known as a vibrant community center and indispensable community resource. By providing access to a broad array of materials, providing support for those who wish to use the varying mediums of those materials, and listening to the community for how the library can best meet changing needs, the Interlaken Public Library positively impacts the lives of its patrons and enhances the well-being of the greater Interlaken community.

    available resources
  • Offer assistance with collections, technology, and services
  • Evolve the use of outreach and marketing tools and channels (physical and virtual) to most
effectively build awareness of and engagement with the library among users and non-users, and
broadly and creatively communicate and promote library hours, events, resources, and services
  • Build connections with residents who do not frequently pass through the village via targeted
    outreach and partnerships
  • Strengthen digital access by providing support for patrons using technology and offering diverse
    virtual programming

services, unique partnerships, and volunteer initiatives)

Goal: The library is an inviting, comfortable place where people enjoy spending time, accessing resources, and connecting with others.

  • Enhance public awareness of the library through DOT road signage, on-site signage, and villagewide
features such as story walks or history plaques
  • Innovatively use the library’s interior to create bright, cozy, and flexible spaces for patron and
staff use (e.g., including amenities and environments that support comfort, creativity, and social
    connection)
  • Explore the development of the library’s outdoor spaces (e.g., seating, gardens, patios, shade
structures, walking path, etc.) for programming, events, and everyday patron enjoyment
  • Plan for future building renovations or expansions, including the potential activation of
    underused spaces

Goal: People of all ages have opportunities to learn, create, and explore new interests through diverse programs, resources, and experiences.

  • Curate library collections, technology, and services that reflect community interests and may
    include unique or nontraditional items
  • Maintain a range of state-of-the-art technology for in-library patron use and for checkout, and
provide education and assistance to maximize access
  • Provide a diverse range of educational, cultural, and creative programs and materials to engage
    library users of all ages

Goal: The library strengthens relationships and connects residents with one another and with the life of the community.

  • Establish a community advisory group to provide input on programs and services
  • Pursue offerings and activities that foster social connection and shared learning
  • Highlight local culture, history, and civic engagement opportunities through programming and
    displays
  • Collaborate with the Friends of the Interlaken Public Library and provide context to support their
    advocacy, outreach, and fundraising efforts
  • Further explore, refine, or expand collaborations with other community entities (libraries,
schools, businesses, government, etc.) in general and to deliver unique and helpful services to
the community (such as medical screenings, remote programming, tech hubs, etc.)

Goal: The library maintains the resources, staffing, facilities, and planning necessary to meet evolving community needs and serve the community well into the future.

  • Maintain a strong understanding of community demographics and needs to guide services,
    outreach, programs, and collections
